Did you know that approximately 1 in every 5,000 babies is born with Hirschsprung disease?

Hirschsprung disease is a rare condition where nerve cells are missing from part of the large intestine. These nerves are responsible for helping move stool through the colon, so without them, children can experience severe constipation, bowel blockages, abdominal swelling, feeding difficulties, and other digestive challenges.

Zacari has an ostomy! An ostomy is a surgically created opening, called a stoma, that allows waste to leave the body when part of the digestive or urinary system isn’t working properly. Waste is then collected in a pouch worn outside the body. #ostomy #hirschsprungsdisease #poop #awareness #raredisease
